I have come to realize over the last few years how egocentric it is to post on a blog about one's own life. After a whopping two posts spaced over 2 years apart to start this blog I wondered to myself why anybody would have any interest in reading about my hikes. As the years rolled slowly by however I have realized that I need to document what I have done and what I am feeling after each hike. This is not for the satisfaction for others, but more for myself as I can now have somewhere to look back to and gain inspiration from. Since this whole hiking thing started for me in a cold March rain on Springer Mountain in Georgia in 2005, the need and want to get outdoors and challenge myself has grown throughout the years. The problem is that the number of outdoor adventures I have taken has slowly declined. So here I am, setting a modest goal to try to log everything here that I accomplish in the future, as so I can gain inspiration and push myself forward to what may be next.
As of this post here are my hiking completions:
Thru-Hike of the Appalachian Trail - 2174.9 Miles in 2005
Pacific Crest Trail - 660.0 Miles in 2008.
Adirondack High Peaks 4000 Footers - 46 of 46 hiked - completed in 2010
Catskill 3500 footers 10 of 35 hiked
New Hampshire 4000 Footers - 22 of 48 hiked
Vermont 4000 Footers - 1 of 5 hiked
Maine 4000 Footers - 9 of 14 hiked
New England 115 - 80 of 115 hiked
New York Long Path - 261.50 miles hiked of 350.25 miles total
Vermont Long Trail - 105.20 miles hiked of 272.00 miles total
Tahoe Rim Trail - 30.20 miles hiked of 162.90 miles total
State High Points - 27 of 50 reached thus far
National Parks - 21 of 51 visited
Everything that is listed here is a goal in my lifetime to finish. There are other trails and other hiking/adventure goals that are in the back of my head but I think that everything on this list is moderately reasonable a goal. I will be satisfied with 49 state high points. Mt McKinley in Alaska is not something I will consider doing based on my history of smoking. A couple of the National Parks in Alaska that are only accessible by boat or plane also may be unattainable. The rest of the list above though is what I am striving to accomplish. As I finish one item on this list, I will add another if possible, that way I will always have many goals ongoing at once. So this is where I start. If I am working on something on any of these lists (or who knows maybe something else), I will post here about it. Once again, this will be for me to read and gain inspiration from. At some time in the future I may decide to share this blog on Facebook for others to read, or maybe somebody will find it on their own and that would be fine as well. But for now this is for me, and right now it's time to get hiking....
