7/24/18 - Day 16 - Tentsite North of Klum Landing Camp to Campsite South of Lone Pilot Trail Junction

Daily Miles: 24.3
Total Miles This Hike: 291.7
PCT Miles Covered: 1993.3

Biggest day so far with over 24 miles hiked.  This last section coming back into Ashland feels like it had a different trail designer compared to the rest of the trail here in Oregon.  There were some long flat stretches, but also some short but very steep (unlike the PCT) stretches.  About a mile into the day I came across this sign.

Not sure what it is about people with guns and their lust to use them.  Scares me quite a bit sometimes to be honest.

Usually the trail is very graded, not in this section.  Water carries were once again very long today, and the sun was barely tolerable today for most of the day.  About halfway through the day I stopped at the only major water source in the 24 miles to have some lunch and drink as much water as I could.

There were some very nice meadow walks sprinkled in today which would have been more enjoyable if it was about 10-15 degrees cooler.  Around 4 PM, I entered into the area that was closed for the Klamathon fire, and about 5 PM it actually started to rain!!!  I got my rain gear on, and proceeded to make some good miles. I miss hiking in the rain every once in a while.  The last water of the day was slow flowing, and all the camp sites near it were taken, so I moved on and found a spot close to Pilot Rock which will give me a very short day back into Callahan’s tomorrow.

Keep on Keeping on,

Patch
